Rural Gigabit Connectivity program

The Department is delivering the program for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS). An investment of £5 billion is supporting it.

The program will provide funding to help build new gigabit-capable broadband networks in areas where commercial providers are unlikely to invest independently. The funding will be provided to local authorities, who will work with suppliers to deliver the new networks.

The UK government has also launched several other initiatives to improve broadband connectivity in rural areas. It including the Rural Development Programme for England, the Broadband Delivery UK program, and the Local Full Fibre Networks program.
